Heard this? Deepika Padukone, the leggy lass of Bollywood who plays the part of Rani Padmini in upcoming magnum opus Padmavati opposite Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, was fearful of getting into depression once again during the shoot of ‘Jauhar’ sequence in the flick. In fact, Jauhar or self-immolation, which was practiced by Rajput women to avoid persecution from Khiljis, was an elaborate affair with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Padmavati, and that was causing tension for Deepika. She did not want to slip into depression once again due to this. Here is what a source told a daily in this regard.
“It is not easy to play a character who has to commit suicide, or johar, as it is called. And when one is working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, he wants one to feel committed and feel the character all the time. Sanjay takes his time to shoot every sequence. The buildup to the johar scene and the scene itself was rather elaborate. Deepika has already spoken about clinical depression earlier in her career. Hence, she does not want to do anything that will take her back to that space.”
