Looking lovely in a merino wool creation by famed fashion designer Nachiket Barve was ‘Befikre’ star Vaani Kapoor. She was there at One BKC as The Woolmark Company announced four winners of its inaugural Wool Runway design competition, aimed at giving tertiary students a kick-start with their fashion career.
She presented the awards to Ankit Kajla (Wool Runway winner), Kavya Doultani (first runner-up) and the tied second runners-up Miloni Kothari and Apoorva Wadhwa. The good news is that the winners not only get generous financial support, but also exciting internships with Raymond, Madura Fashion & Lifestyle and fashion magazine Grazia.
The innovative use of wool in their designs was seen in a breezy fashion show. The talk was that Wool Runway not only raises awareness but also educates the next generation of consumers and inspires emerging fashion designers to work with merino wool. The students’ designs were a spectacular visual representation of avant-garde and wearable fashion that highlighted the versatility of merino wool.
Judges included Louis Philippe and Simon Carter creative director Karunesh Vohra, Raymond Limited president Sudhanshu Pokhriyal, Grazia India editor Mehernaaz Dhondy, White Board creative director and founder Kapil Batus and fashion designer Payal Khandwala. The jury carefully selected the winning designs against strict judging criteria, including the use of at least 80 per cent wool per outfit.
The night also included a fashion show held by the House of Raymond with a showcase of its made-to-measure, ready-to-wear and fine fabrics range. Youth icons and showstoppers Shravan Reddy and Ruslaan Mumtaz were dressed in Raymond Fine Fabrics designed by Dhruv Vaish.
And looking happy indeed besides master of ceremonies Siddharth Kannan was The Woolmark Company country manager Arti Gudal.
